Early intervention is important to provide accurate information, including a range of options regarding funeral arrangements and to assist with other issues that may arise at the time of the child’s death.
When the death of a child occurs we are mostly notified by attending ambulance, police or hospital and we aim to contact and/ or visit the family immediately if consent given by the family.
SIDS and Kids Hunter provides:
  • 24 hour crisis phone line
  • Ongoing Bereavement Support for those affected by the death of a child.
  • Individual or group support sessions as required by bereaved parents and their families
  • A professional grief counsellor.
  • Ongoing follow-up.
  • Referral to other services if needed.
  • We offer a quarterly newsletter, which is sent to families and others who support our group. It usually contains details of meetings and activities at the Drop-In-Centre, updates on the latest scientific information, “Loving Memories”, and “Stork News”. Most importantly, it has stories, poems, and memories lovingly written by families and friends about their special babies.
  • Workshops for children who have experienced the death of a baby brother or sister.
  • Invitations to events and meetings
